The First Shift Project

Feminist Collaborations about Women and Work

Go to the First Shift Project

The First Shift Project is a creation of my Women's Studies classes at Elmira College.

This year we're adding to the project for the fifteenth year (Holy Moley!!) and our theme will be women in environmentalism and sustainable practices. Students will profile individual women, investigate related issues (such as outdoor careers for women, lives of women who farm, ecofeminism), and explore their own relationships with the natural environment. We'll visit a local Ecovillage and hold some litter clean-up events. And we're going to have a chance to do some hiking, paddling, geocaching, fly casting and fly tying. Our newest addition to the site will be published on the web in early June, 2012.
